National Highway 217 Dushanzi to Kuqa section, referred to as Duku Highway, is an important highway connecting the north and south of Xinjiang, and is also known as "Heavenly Highway" because it crosses the Tianshan Mountains. This highway stretches across mountains and valleys, runs through southern and northern Xinjiang, and as the dream road for a lot self-driving fan.
It starts from Dushanzi in the north to Kuqa City in the south, with a total length of 561 kilometers, the highest Tielimaiti mountain is passed at elevation of more than 3,400 meters. The 1,895-meter-long Tielimaiti Tunnel, which runs through here, began construction in May 1979 and was completed in September 1983, with a clear width of 8.5 meters, a road width of 7 meters, and a height of 6.68 meters. At that time, it was the longest and highest road tunnel in China.
(Note: Tielimaiti, Mongolian means impassable.)
Due to the low construction design standards at the time of construction, the Duku Highway has been reconstructed and upgraded many times in the following decades, and the whole line has been upgraded to a Second-Class Highway.
Among them, the Tielimaiti Tunnel has undergone lighting upgrading and renovation works to improve power supply and lighting capacity, ending the history of no lighting facilities in 2023. More than 1,000 lights have been installed in the tunnel to achieve 24-hour power-on, and 64 monitoring probes have been installed to detect problems in time and ensure the maintenance team can deal with them in time.
Hongrui is the supplier of the Tielimaiti Tunnel Lighting Enhancement Project. In response to the harsh geographical and climatic conditions of the plateau area, Hongrui Company provided high-quality products that added light and color to this famous tunnel. Duku Highway is known as "the most beautiful highway in China", and the Tielimaiti Tunnel has also become a famous attraction for tourists to take snaps.
